SUN 319
McClelland engineers,inc.
2140 Eastman Avenue,Ventura,California 93003,
Tel.(805)644-5535,Telex:659241 E(;
June 1, 1988
Project No. 0588-1603
Ogden Environmental Services, Inc.
10955 John Jay Hopkins Drive
San Diego, CA 92121
Attention: William S. Rickman
Additional Proposed Monitoring Wells
Former Tillie Lewis Foods Cannery
Stockton, California
In response to your request of May 31, 1988, we have prepared this
assessment plan to monitor the potential for on-site migration of groundwater
along the northern property boundary during future remedial activities at the
above-referenced location. We understand that shallow groundwater at the
former Carnation facility, located north of the subject property, has been
contaminated with solvents from past activities at that site. Representa-
tives of the Regional Water Quality Control Board and the San Joaquin Local
Health District have expressed their concern that groundwater dewatering at
the former Tillie Lewis Foods cannery may alter local groundwater gradients
such that contaminated groundwater from the former Carnation site may migrate
onto the subject property.
The site assessment report for groundwater contamination at the former
Tillie Lewis Foods cannery was provided by McClelland Engineers in a report
dated May 20, 1988. The final remediation plan was provided by Ogden Envi-
ronmental Services in a report dated May 1988.
To provide for monitoring of groundwater properties along the northern
perimeter of the project site, McClelland proposes to install two additional
groundwater monitoring wells. The wells will be constructed in accordance
with county and state requirements for monitoring wells. Our services will
include the following:
1. Drill two borings (as shown in Plate 1) to a depth of up to 20 feet
below first encountered groundwater; install 2-inch-diameter PVC
wells, locking covers and traffic boxes; develop each well and
sample the groundwater according to EPA methodology. One ground-
water sample will be collected from each well for chemical analy-
sis. Soil samples will be obtained at 5-foot intervals.
