Preliminary assessment plans
for soil and groundwater contamination were provided in our letters dated
March 4 and March 9, 1988, respectively. The site assessment report for soil
and groundwater contamination was provided in our report dated May 20, 1988.
To further evaluate the extent of soil contamination, McClelland pro-
poses to complete up to three borings as shown in Plate 1. Our services will
include the following:
1. Drill borings to a depth of up to 40 feet below ground surface.
Undisturbed soil samples will be collected at 5-foot intervals
using a California Liner sampler. Prior to each sampling attempt,
the sampler and sample liners will be steam cleaned.
Soil cuttings will be containerized on site in 55-gallon DOT drums.
Upon termination, the borings will be backfilled with grout using
the tremie method or by placement through the hollow stem auger.
The grout will consist of a cement-bentonite grout or cement-sand
mix.
2. All soil samples will be field screened for volatile organics using
a photoionization detector (PID) . Those samples that show positive
readings of organic gases will be analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons by EPA method 418.1 (IR technique) .
