J. Vorster
requesting additional soil sampling and ground water monitoring
at the referenced site and information addressing specific
concerns about the report entitled, "Ogden Food Products Corporation
Soil and Ground Water Investigation, Stockton, California" prepared
and submitted by J. H. Kleinfelder & Associates.
The enclosed letter to Ms. Vorster, prepared by Eric S. Findlay
of Kleinfelder, addresses questions concerning the various plates
contouring fuel oil contamination levels (Item #1) and the PID
ratings (Item #2) with accompanying TIP information from the
manufacturer. The site map shows the location of the two supply
wells and an abandoned well which has been plugged and sealed with
concrete.
The enclosed test results of EPA Analytical Methods 8240 and 8270
performed on the two composited soil samples collected from Boring
B-17 on August 26, 1987 are indicative of concentrations of
chemical constituents associated with No. 6 fuel oil. It is our
understanding that you were concerned about the levels of PCB's
that might be present. We were informed by laboratory personnel
that due to the interference from the napthalene concentrations,
detection limits for PCB's would be less than 100 ppm using the
EPA methods you requested. The laboratory (ENSECO) is presently
employing EPA Method 8080 to test for PCB's. The initial screening
indicates a 957 confidence level that PCB's are not present. The
final analysis for PCB's will be forwarded to you as soon as
practicable.
Initial water levels in the three shallow monitoring wells (MW-1,
MW-2, & MW-3) were measured and indicate approximately a 0.004
gradient to the northeast.
When comparing the attached laboratory results with the chemical
General Offices at Pet Plaza 400 South Fourth Street St. Louis, MO 63102
