A representative sample and chemical analysis of
the soil indicates contamination with xylenes at a concentration of 6 ppm
(6000 ug/kg). The amount of contaminated soil is estimated at 250 cubic
yards. Please find attached the laboratory analysis.
Currently, we are excavating this soil and placing it into a segregated area
of the current stockpile where it will be restored until a determination of
the proper method of disposal. We are requesting determination of the
applicability of thermally treating this material under our present variance.
If thermal treatment of this material is acceptable then we will formally
request permission to treat the material from both the DOHS and the San
Joaquin Air Pollution Control District. If you have any questions concerning
this matter, please do not hesitate to call me at 619/455-4619.
Sincerely,
G.
