The report recommends the preparation of a
Corrective Action Plan, which will utilize the information obtained from the feasibility testing to
determine the most cost effective and technically efficient method for remediation of the site.
SJC/EHD's review of the data suggests that the air sparge response in MW-1 may be due to a
sand unit at approximately 25 feet below surface grade (bsg); the lack of response in MW-5 may
be due to the shallow depth of MW-6 not encountering the sand unit; and the lack of response in
MW-7 is probably due to sheer distance, approximately 120 feet. Encountering the sand at
approximately 20.75 feet bsg in the continuous core of MW-2 suggests a southeastern dip to the
sand . If the sparged air travels along the sand/fine grained material interface, there may be some
difficulty recovering the stripped hydrocarbons. Further testing and modeling of the data may be
prudent to be sure that hydrocarbon recovery from sparging is likely.
Please proceed with preparation of a Corrective Action Plan and submit it to SJC/EHD by
September 30, 2002 . If you have any questions please call Lori Duncan at (209) 468-0337 or
Nuel Henderson at (209) 468-3436.
Donna Heran , REHS, Director
Environmental Health Department
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Nuel C.
