(Stratus) . RAP outlines a proposed implementation of a 4-month pilot
test for ozone injection (OI) remediation at the subject site. Continuation of OI beyond 4 months
may later be considered by the EHD .
In RAP, Stratus proposes to:
Advance four soil borings onsite utilizing 8-inch hollow stem augers to approximately 25
feet below surface grade (bsg) ;
® From each boring , collect soil samples at 5-foot intervals through the upper 15 feet of the
boring , and at 2 . 5-foot intervals from 15 feet bsg to total depth of each boring . Selected
samples will be submitted for analysis of gasoline range organics (GRO) , and benzene,
toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) . A photoionization detector will be used to
screen soil for volatile organic compounds and other pertinent geologic data will be
recorded on a boring log ;
® Install an ozone injection well in each boring (OZ- 1 through 0Z-4) for injection of ozone
into groundwater in the interval between 23 and 25 feet bsg ;
® Utilize a portable ozone injection (OI ) system for a period of four months , during which
time groundwater samples from selected wells will be collected at six-week intervals and
analyzed for GRO , BTEX and other chemicals as required by the Central Valley Regional
Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCB) ; and
® Visit the site approximately twice per month to conduct operation and maintenance and
measure groundwater parameters from selected wells located near the OI area.
The EHD received no comments from either the public or other interested parties during the
30-day comment period regarding the proposed OI at the subject site, which ended on April 16 ,
2015 . The EHD approves the scope of work outlined in RAP , with the following conditions:
® As the 'hot' well AS-1 is screened in fine-grained soil , the EHD recommends installing
one upgradient ozone injector screened approximately 22 to 25 feet bsg, completing the
well in the fine-graded unit, taking care to avoid the underlying sandy unit;
