B inning in the 1990's, work h been completed to assess and monitor
contaminant levels in th subsurface. This work has ==d= that petroleum hydrocarbon impact "d
which is currently encountered at approximately 10
sovke r
feet below surface grade. Since the initial site investigations, sekxie cleanup efforts have been
completed at the subject property, however contaminant levels in groundwater"" remain above
levels that will allow SJCEHD to close irt° environmental case,A Although .uw oe-4"a H
water wells are known to be threatened from the fuel release, SJCEHU has directed that
additional site cleanup work be performed. In response to this request, Stratus Environmental,
Inc. (Stratus), working on behalf of the former Barnes Trucking facility, developed a plan to
remediate the property to a condition that will allow for closure of the site under the criteria of the
State Water Resources Control Board's `Low ThreaeClosure Policy',
uv 6ije
Proposed Corrective Actions
Stratus has developed a cleanup plan that consists of injecting ozone, a strong oxidant, into the
shallow groundwater interval Veou l a network of injection wells. Application of ozone results
in a chemical reaction that seas rues petrolet7 hydrocarbons y carbon
dioxide and water. Ozone will be 4$=Ad'& area of the site with the highest remaining
concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons in groundwater. Groundwater samples will be
collected from monitoring wells located near the inj_etion area ia_oWw to evaluate remedial
performance. The project will initially be r " r ` 1"Or a period of four months (pilot scale); if
the technology appears effective and further remediation is warranted, the remediation period will
be extended. Reports will be submitted to SJCE14D at a minimum of once per quarter in order to
provide the agency with information to enable"gtreiit oversight of the Cleanup.
Further Information and Public Comment Opportunity` k ms
Qp
Itr
Between March 16 and I 19F4, 2015, SJCEHD will be accepting publients regarding the
proposed Corrective Action.
