CLEARWATER <br /> G R O U P, I N C <br /> • Environmere tai Se.vues <br /> 2.4 FIELD ACTIVITIES <br /> 2.1 Soil Borehole Drilling and Soil Sampling <br /> On September 25, 1997, Clearwater supervised the drilling of soil borings SB-1 through SB- <br /> 6 by Spectrum Drilling, Inc Using a CME-75 high torque drill rig equipped with 8-inch <br /> diameter hollow-stem augers, Spectrum completed SB-1, -3, and -4, to a depth of 30 feet <br /> below ground surface (bgs), and S13-2, -5, and-6 to a depth of 35 to 36 feet bgs All <br /> downhole equipment was steam cleaned between borings to prevent cross contamination <br /> Prior to commencement of work, all on-site personnel attended a health and safety meeting <br /> and signed the Field Crew Health and Safety Plan attached as Appendix A <br /> Soil samples were collected at 5-foot intervals by driving a California-modified split spoon <br /> sampler ahead of the lead auger Portions of each soil sample were sealed in a plastic bag and <br /> screened in the field for organic vapors using an organic vapor meter (OVM) model Dunng <br /> drilling, soil samples were described and classified by a Clearwater geologist according to the <br /> . visual methods of the Unified Soil Classification System (ASTM D 2488-93) Sample <br /> locations, soil descriptions and OVM readings are shown on the boring logs presented as <br /> Appendix B <br /> Soil samples were selected for laboratory analysis as directed by Ms Mary Meays of the San <br /> Joaquin County EHD Selected undisturbed soil samples were sealed into the brass collection <br /> tubes with teflon lined plastic end caps for laboratory analysis Laboratory samples were <br /> documented on a chain of custody form and placed in a cooler for shipment to American <br /> Environmental Network (AEN), a state-certified environmental laboratory located in Pleasant <br /> Hill, California At the request of Ms Meays, the samples were analyzed for total petroleum <br /> hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) and as diesel (TPHd) by modified EPA Method 8015, <br /> benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) with methyl-tert-butyl ether(MTBE) by <br /> modified EPA Method 8020 In addition, three soil samples were analyzed for total petroleum <br /> hydrocarbons as oil (TPHo) by EPA Method 8015, total lead by EPA Method 7420, and <br /> volatile organics by EPA Method 8260 Oxygenates are not analyzed as part of the standard <br /> list of constituents quantified in EPA Method 8260 As requested by EHD, future soil and <br /> groundwater samples will be analyzed for oxygenate constituents <br /> 2 <br />
