I <br /> CLEARWATER <br /> G R o U P OCT 17 2003 <br /> Enveronme7Ql Services ENVIR,,)NMENT HEALTH <br /> PERMIIISERVICES <br /> Ms Lon Duncan October 14, 2003 <br /> Senior Registered Environmental Health Specialist <br /> San Joaquin County Public Health Services <br /> Environmental Health Division <br /> 304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor <br /> Stockton, CA 95202 <br /> Re: Groundwater Monitoring Report - Third Quarter 2003 <br /> Barnes Trucking Facility, 1817 South Fresno Avenue, Stockton, California <br /> Clearwater Project No ZB178C <br /> San Joaquin County Site Code No 2506 <br /> Dear Ms Duncan <br /> This report, prepared by Clearwater Group (Clearwater) on behalf of Barnes Trucking and Mr <br /> Floyd Barnes, presents the results of Third Quarter 2003 groundwater monitoring efforts <br /> performed on September 16, 2003 at 1817 South Fresno Avenue, Stockton, San Joaquin County, <br /> +� California The site location is shown in Figure 1 Per correspondence from the San Joaquin <br /> County Environmental Health Department (SJC/SJC/EHD) dated February 21, 2003, Clearwater <br /> continued collection of Monitored Natural Attenuation (MNA) data this quarter This additional <br /> work was incorporated into the regularly scheduled quarterly groundwater monitoring activities <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> The Barnes Trucking Facility is located adjacent to the southwest corner of the intersection of <br /> State Highway 4 and South Fresno Avenue (Figure 1) The property is located approximately <br /> 1 3 miles south of the Port of Stockton Turning Basin and 0 75 miles northeast of the San <br /> Joaquin River Currently, the site is used as a truck dispatch center and parking area There are <br /> no fuel-dispensing facilities stored or operating at the site A site plan map appears as Figure 2 <br /> In letters dated September 18, 1992 and April 30, 1996, the SJC/SJC/EHD indicated that <br /> additional investigation of this site was required because petroleum hydrocarbons were detected <br /> in soil samples collected from an underground storage tank (UST) excavation According to an <br /> April 30, 1996 SJC/SJC/EHD letter, two USTs were removed from the site on June 15, 1992 <br /> Both USTs were 10,000-gallon capacity tanks that had been used to store diesel fuel Four soil <br /> samples were collected from the bottom of the excavation at a depth of approximately 16 feet <br /> below ground surface (bgs) Soil samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as <br /> gasoline (TPHg), as diesel fuel (TPHd), as kerosene (TPHk), and as motor oil (TPHmo) <br /> Samples were also analyzed for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX) The <br /> highest concentrations of TPHg, TPHd, and BTEX were detected at 5,700 milligrams per <br /> kilogram (mg/kg) TPHg, 50 mg/kg TPHd, and 48 mg/kg benzene TPHk and TPHmo were not <br /> detected in any of the four samples <br /> 229 Tewksbury Avenue ♦ Point Richmond,California 94801 ♦ Telephone 510-307-9943 ♦ Fax 510-232-2823 <br />
