CLEARWATER
I G R O U P
Envoranmenta! Servrces
2.0 GROUNDWATER MONITORING - THIRD QUARTER 2001
i
2.1 Purpose
This was a scheduled event in the ongoing effort to monitor the dissolved-phase contaminant
concentrations in the existing network of monitoring wells (MW-1 through MW-8) The
'
objective of these activities was to amass a body of data in order to identify trends in contaminant
concentration, contaminant type and groundwater elevations over time
2.2 Groundwater Monitoring Activities
On September 30, 2002 a groundwater monitoring event was performed at the subject site All
Ieight monitoring wells were sampled An electronic water level indicator, accurate to within
±0 01-foot, was used to gauge depth to water All wells were checked for the presence of light
non-aqueous-phase liquid (LNAPL) prior to purging No measurable thicknesses of LNAPL
were observed on groundwater in any of the wells In preparation for sampling, the wells were
I purged of groundwater until sampling parameters (temperature, pH, and conductivity) stabilized,
this occurred with the removal of approximately three wet casing volumes Field activities were
performed in accordance with Clearwater's Field Procedures (Appendix A) Groundwater
monitoring and well purging information are presented on Gauge Data/Purge Calculations and
Purge Data sheets (Appendix B)
Followingrecovery of water levels to at least 80% of their static levels groundwater samples
rY , l p
were collected from the wells using disposable polyethylene bailers and transferred to laboratory
supplied containers Sample containers were labeled, documented on a chain-of-custody form,
and placed on ice in a cooler for transport to the Kiff Analytical Labs, a DOHS-certified
laboratory located in Davis, California Groundwater samples were analyzed for concentrations
of total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene
Iisomers (BTEX), and methyl tert-butyl ether(MTBE) using EPA Method 8260
Purging devices were cleaned between use by an Alconox® wash followed by double rinse in
clean tap water to prevent cross-contamination Rinseate was stored on-site in labeled 55-gallons
drums pending future removal and disposal
•
I
ZB 178C CAP 4 November 20,2002
