LEARWATE ' <br /> • G R O U P, I N C <br /> 'f° f ik 1. <br /> Envzronmenta[ Services f�S 2 P 0 2 <br /> Ms Lon Duncan November 9, 1999 <br /> San Joaquin County Public Health Services/Environmental Health Division <br /> 304 East Weber Avenue,Third Floor <br /> Stockton,CA 95202 <br /> Re Workptan Addendum for Additional Subsurface Investigation <br /> Barnes Trucking Facility, 1817 South Fresno Ave, Stockton, CA <br /> A workplan dated September 30, 1999, was submitted by Clearwater Group, Inc (Clearwater) on behalf of Mr Floyd <br /> Barnes of Barnes Trucking, proposed additional subsurface investigation at the referenced property (Figure 1) for the <br /> purposes of contaminant plume delineation and identification of a possible off site source This workplan addendum is <br /> submitted in response to San Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental Health Divisions (SJCPHS/EHD's) <br /> comment letter received November 3, 1999 This addendum workplan more adequately addresses concerns for both the <br /> County and the property owner The purpose of the work described in this workplan is to completely define the vertical <br /> and horizontal extent of soil and groundwater contamination located below the above referenced site and to investigate the <br /> possibility of an off-site source coming from the northeast or Fresno Avenue <br /> Background <br /> Site Description <br /> The Barnes Trucking Facility is located adjacent to the southwest corner of the intersection of Charter Way (State <br /> Highway 4) and South Fresno Avenue(Figure 1) The property is located approximately 1 5 miles south of the Port of <br /> Stockton Turning Basin and 0 9 mile east of the San Joaquin River (Figure 2) Currently, the site is used as a truck <br /> dispatch center and parking area There:are no fuel dispensing facilities operating at the site <br /> Previous Wor <br /> On June 15, 1992, two underground storage tanks (USTs) were removed from the site according to an April 30, 1996 <br /> letter by Ms Mary Meays of the SJCPHS/EHD At the tune of removal, both 10,000-gallon capacity USTs had been <br /> used to store diesel fuel <br /> According to the SJCPHS/EHD, four soil samples were collected from the bottom of the excavation at a depth of <br /> approximately 16 feet below ground surface (bgs) Soil samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as <br /> gasoline (TPHg) as diesel fuel (TPHd), as kerosene (TPHk), and as oil (TPHo) Samples were also analyzed for <br /> benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) The highest concentrations of TPHg, TPHd, and BTEX were <br /> detected at 5,700 mg/kg(TPHg),50 mg/kg(TPHd), and 48 mg/kg(benzene) TPHk and TPHo were not detected in any <br /> of the four samples above the laboratory reporting limit <br /> • In September 1997, Clearwater supervised the drilling of six exploratory soil borings (SB-1 through SB-6) to depths <br /> between 31 and 36 feet bgs in tate viarnty of the former USTs (Figure 2) Low to moderate concentrations of gasoline <br /> 520 Third Street,Suite 104 • Oakland,California 94607 • Telephone 510-893-5160 • Fax 510-893-5947 <br />
