-
Bear Creek.Winery ASE• •
Lodi. San Joaquin Co.
Monitoring Well lwtallation Proposal
Health anti&1&tv Plan
Upon arrival at the site, each member of the drilling team will be given a local map on
which the route to Lodi Memorial Hospital is clearly marked The route will also be
described verbally to each person. A cell telephone will be present at the drilling site for
the duration of activities there.
B. Drilling Details
Hollow-flight augers(nominal 10"OD, 4 7/8"Ill) will be used to drill. Logging will be
accomplished from continuous cores taken through the interior of the augers. The
expected total depth is 40 to 50 feet.
C. Monitoring WeU Design
The proposed design of the wells is shown on Figure 2. The screened intervals of the
wells will cover the first saturated interval. They will not begin less than 10 feet beneath
the existing ground surface. They will not bridge two apparently separate hydrologic
units. They will be long enough so that they we can reasonably expect them to intersect
water even during low water table conditions. During high water table conditions, the
water table is likely to be higher than the top of the perforated interval.
The sand pack and screen size will be as shown on the figure(0.020" slots, Number 3
sand) if the water-bearing stratum targeted is medium sand or coarser. If the screen needs
to be placed in fine or silty sand, 0.010" slots will be used. 'Threaded casing will be used
throughout. Bentonite added to the grout mix will be at least 3 percent by weight but less
than 5 percent to assure the grout will not shrink excessively. Ah grout will he placed
with a tremie pipe.
D. Well Development
Development of the wells will not occur until more than 24 hours after the grout has been
placed. The wells will be developed by alternately swabbing and pumping with a 0.5 hp
submersible pump. The procedure will continue until the turbidity of water delivered by
the pump after three casing-volumes have been purged is less than 5 NTU The
development water will be placed in the adjacent infiltration area.
E. Surveying
A licensed land surveyor will be hired to measure the elevations (to within 0.01 foot) of
the tops of the plastic casings and to locate them (to within 1 foot)on a rational
coordinate system
G. Well Sampling
The wells will be sampled for the first time at least 48 hours after completing the
development. The wells will be purged of 3 casing volumes using a 24-volt submersible
pump. The purge water wiil continuously pass through a measuring cell and the pH, EC,
and Temperature will be recorded at intervals. The pump carries a disposable
