GEScRP
GENESIS ENGINEERING & REDEVELOPMENT
April 4, 2013
Ms.Amy Terrell
Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley Region
11020 Sun Center Drive, Suite 200
Rancho Cordova, California 95670-6114
Subject: Radius of Influence Assessment Work Plan
Ripon Farm Services facility at 938 Frontage Road in Ripon, California
RWQCB Monitoring and Reporting Program No. R5-2008-0149-041
Dear Ms. Terrell:
As detailed in Treatability Study Groundwater Monitoring Report dated February 7,2013, a
pilot study is underway at the former Ripon Farm Services facility at 938 Frontage Road in
Ripon, California("Site") (Figures 1 and 2). The pilot study was approved by the Central
Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board ("RWQCB") in a letter dated October 24,
2012. The goal of the pilot study is to assess the effectiveness of EHC®-Carbon Only
("amendment") in remediating nitrate impacts to groundwater by the reduction of nitrate to
dinitrogen gas (N2).
Since the amendment injection in December 2012, groundwater monitoring has been ongoing
in accordance with Monitoring and Reporting Program("MRP"). The most recent
monitoring data, representing samples collected from the 1 month, 2 months, and 3 months
events, are reported in the Treatability Study First Quarter 2013 Groundwater Monitoring
report dated April 8, 2013. For the three monitoring wells in the Treatment and Transition
Zones, the most recent monitoring data indicate that nitrate concentrations in groundwater
around one of the wells(MW-103) have significantly decreased and nitrate concentrations in
the other two wells(MW-104 and CRW-4) appear unchanged. It is hypothesized that the
effects of the amendment has yet to reach these two wells.
In order to test this possibility, Genesis Engineering& Redevelopment,Inc. ("GE&R")has
developed this Radius oflnfluence Assessment Work Plan ("Work Plan") for the Site. The
objectives of this Work Plan are to:
1. Evaluate the lateral extent of injected amendment through visual inspection of core
samples; and
2. Assess the effectiveness of the amendment to reduce nitrate to N2 through
collection and analysis of reconnaissance groundwater samples.
Genesis Engineering&Redevelopment, Inc.
351 Ruess Road, Ripon, California 95366
Phone:209.599.2004 9 Fax 209.433.3990
