VW ...
Vicki McCartney [EH]
From: William Little[wlittle@advgeoenv.com]
Sent: Wednesday, February 29, 2012 3:08 PM
To: Vicki McCartney [EH]
Cc: Nuel Henderson [EH]
Subject: RE: 308 Grant Street
Attachments: Larry's Auto Soil TABLES 1.pdf
Vicki McCartney,
Evaluating the soil impact in boring MW8 would include a soil vapor intrusion model. The soil
vapor intrusion models and risk assessment for TPH only produce a hazard index and the
other VOCs can provide a cancer risk value. In other word the first value which produces a
cancer risk above any threshold would be soil sample data from below 25 feet in depth. Site
information, particularly with non-impacted soil sample data at five feet and low concentrations
of only TPH at a depth of ten feet,
does not justify additional soil vapor sampling.
Otherwise the next best investigation tool for soil vapor intrusion is a shallow soil vapor
sample-point, however, with no impact at five feet in soil samples, the likelihood of soil vapor
impact is low. Overall the risk of hydrocarbon vapor intrusion is low and even with the available
soil data, an exposure model (vapor model) would not produce any results which could be
detrimental.
lvuGdic(`fI,t y`n Z,aa,
Your office can issue a directive for a soil vapor sampling near the southern UST area and
AGE will prepare work plan for the RP to install some point near the UST or building.
Please call me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
William R.
