(AGE),
proposing a revision to the groundwater sampling schedule at your site. The EHD has
reviewed the historical analytical data from groundwater samples collected through February
2011 and approves the removal of monitoring wells MW-1, MW-3 and MW-7 from the annual
sampling schedule; however, continue to collect depth-to-water measurements from these
wells. The EHD approves the addition of extraction well EW-1 and vapor well VW-5b to the
list of wells that includes MW-2, MW-4, MW-5, MW-6, MW-8 and MW-9 to be sampled
annually. Analyze the groundwater samples for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline
(TPH-g); benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX); methyl tertiary-butyl ether
(MTBE), tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME) and 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA). Include the
analysis of total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPH-d) for groundwater samples collected
from MW-4, MW-5 and MW-8.
By letter dated 16 April 2010, the EHD expressed concern that vapor, potentially intruding
from the petroleum hydrocarbon plume, may adversely affect the health of the workers
occupying a warehouse building where high concentrations of benzene and TPH-g have been
detected in groundwater samples from monitoring well MW-5 located inside the building. The
EHD directed that a work plan be submitted for the collection of soil gas samples in the area
of MW-5 as well as throughout the site where petroleum hydrocarbon contamination is known
to be present. By letter dated 02 July 2010, the EHD extended the date for submitting the soil
gas sampling work plan from 01 June 2010 to 30 July 2010; and by letter dated 11 October
2010, the EHD directed that the referenced work plan be submitted within thirty days of date
of that letter.
By email dated 29 October 2010, AGE responded to the EHD's directive to submit a work plan
to collect soil gas samples and provided the following information:
