Grant Line
Tracy, CA
Groundwater Investigation
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) has reviewed the
Addendum to the Problem Assessment Report for the above referenced site and discussed it with the
California Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCB). One additional monitoring
well (MW-4) and two shallow soil borings were drilled, sampled, and analyzed. The groundwater was
sampled on July 10, 1991, and July 16, 1991, and found to be non-detectable for hydrocarbon
contamination. Toluene, (0.03 parts per million) was detected in soil boring #3 at 4.5 feet below grade.
Groundwater was encountered at approximately eight (8) feet below ground surface
Although there is no written guideline or policy which specifies the length of time between sampling events,
the CVRWQCB recommends an interval of at least 30 days. This allows for movement and fluctuation of
groundwater and gives a broader understanding of hydrologic conditions beneath the site. This should help
in confirming that groundwater has indeed not been impacted. Please conduct an additional round of
sampling to provide this data. The groundwater elevations of all wells should also be measured and a
gradient reading interpreted. In addition to the confirmation sample,an explanation and/or a remedial plan
should be developed to address the low level soil contamination in and possibly near soil boring #3.
Pursuant to Section 2652(4) of the Underground Storage Tank Regulations (California Code of Regulations,
Title 23,Subchapter 16) a quarterly monitoring report shall be submitted to PHS/EHD and CVRWQCB until
the investigation and cleanup of the site is deemed adequate. The report is to show the:
-status of investigation and cleanup activities including the results of all investigations
completed to date;
-proposed continuing or next phase of investigation;
-method of cleanup proposed or implemented, schedules for the completion of the
investigation of the site and remediation;
-method and location of disposal of the released hazardous substance and any contaminated
soil, groundwater or surface water;
-manifest required for transport of hazardous substances;
-monitoring well data including groundwater elevation, PH, conductivity, gradient;
-analytical results of groundwater or soil sampling; and
-site map showing the "zero line of contamination, if known, and changes in the above
measurements over the last quarter.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services \>
