I Krarersocrat
STRUCTURAL ENGINEERS, IHC
October 12, 1994
Capstone Remediation Corporotbri !
17875 Von Karmen, Suite 200
Irvine, CA 92718
AM, Mr Jimmy Allumns
RE The Bridges Specialty Center, Stockton, CA
(Kramer and Associates Job No 9488)
Gentlemen,
I
This letter is a follow-up to our site visit at the Bridges Specialty Center on Ootobor 11,
1994 The purpose of the visit was to determine the effects of the caving of the soil
inside the elevator pit According to the geotechnical engineer, Ron Herman of
Kleinfelder, the localized caving is most likely due to the original drilling of the elevator
shaft casing.
We observed that the caving appeared to be confined to the intoner of the pit The
perimeter walls appeared to have full bearing on native or compacted soils. We also
determined that the pit wall is four inches thick without a reel behind the wall A visual
inspection of the interior and exterior faces of time shaft wail did not reveal any signs of
settlement
The remediation process may resume if the pit walls continue to be supported by the
soil To reduce the change of settlement, we recommend that the drilling sequence be
revised as follows.
Day 1 Drill and backfill one hole in two opposite comers of the pit No other
holes are to be dniled on day 1.
Day 2 Dnil and backfill the remaining two comers of the pit No other
holes are to be drilled on day 2
Day 3 A regulzr drilling sequence may begin for time remaining area inside the
pit
X002 Dow MnLie,State 136 Tush, CA=92680
()14) 338-6222 FAX (114) 838-2023
