The soil sample
is kept on ice prior to and during transport to a
state-certified laboratory for analysis.
Soil immediately adjacent to that selected for
laboratory analysis will be field tested for
hydrocarbon concentrations using a Gastech Model
1238 combustible gas indicator (CGI) , The CGI
reading will be taken after approximately 15 seconds
a and recorded on the boring log,
Task C: Install Gmmd Wa lr Moni oringWell•
Ground water monitoring wells will. be installed
onsite and offsite in the approximate locations
shown in Figure 5. The monitoring wells will be
drilled with 10-inch-diameter, continuous-flight,
hollow stem augers. The monitoring wells will be.
constructed of clean, 4-inch-diameter,
- 3 flush-threaded, Schedule 40 PVC blank and screened
(0. 020-inch slot size) casing. The annular space
surrounding the screened portion will be backfilled
with No. 3 Monterey sand (as filter pack) to
approximately 1.5 feet above the top of the screened
section. A 1.5-foot-thick bentonite annular seal
will be placed above the filter pack and the
remaining annulus grouted with neat cement to the
, . surface. Utility boxes will be installed slightly
above grade to minimize infiltration of surface
waters. Locking, water-tight well caps will be
installed to ensure the integrity of the well.
Monitoring wells will be installed to a depth of.
approximately 15 feet below the first saturated
zone. The total depth for the monitoring wells is
estimated at 25 feet below grade. Monitoring well
r» construction details may change to accommodate
_ site-specific conditions. If a competent clay layer
is encountered below the first saturated zone, all
necessary precautions..,will be taken to prevent
penetration of this layer.
<.;.
Task b• vel-Q12, SamPle, andSurvey MQnitorincf Wells
The ground water monitoring -wells will be -
properly
developed and sampled in accordance with SJC/PHS/EHp
and RWQCB guidelines.
