GEOMATRIX
Ms.Katie Hower
Chevron Pipe Line Company
9 July 1998
Page 2
that provide useful perimeter data but have not contained detectable concentrations of PHCs
for four consecutive quarters or more (MW-5 and MW-14).
Wells to be abandoned include distal cross/down-gradient wells that have not contained detect-
able concentrations of PHCs for 4 consecutive quarters or more(MW-3, MW-9, and MW-11).
It is proposed that well MW-13 also be abandoned due to its close proximity to well MW-8,
which will be monitored semi-annually. Wells MW-6 and MW-7 best monitor the interior of
the PHC plume(i.e., these wells exhibit the highest and lowest PHC concentrations within the
plume, respectively); well MW-12 is duplicative and is recommended for abandonment.
Additionally, all groundwater/vapor extraction wells installed as part of CPL'S remedial efforts
at the site (EX-1 through EX-12) are recommended for abandonment.
It is anticipated that RWQCB approval will'be required prior to implementing well abandon-
ment procedures or revising MRP 96-814. Please call either of the undersigned if you.need
any additional information.
Sincerely,
GEOMATRIX CONSULTANTS,INC.
M in B. Bloes Dawn A.
