O. Box 4054
Richmond, CA 94804-0054
GROUND WATER SAMPLE RESULTS, CHEVRON TRACY ORCHARD SITE, GRANT
LINE AND CORRAL HOLLOW ROADS, TRACY, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
Enclosed are laboratory results from split samples 1 collected during the groundwater sampling
conducted on 5 October 1993 at the above referenced site. I split samples from two wells, MW-7
and MW-8. These samples were tested.for EPA 601 and 602 compounds, total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-G) and TPH as diesel (TPH-D). Both monitoring wells contained
no detectable TPH-D but had elevated amounts of TPH-G and its components. Benzene was
µ
measured at 5,100 g/1 in MW-8 and at'23 ,700 µg/l in MW-7. As is evident, the ground water at
this site is highly contaminated with gasoline and its components.
On 29 October 1993, we received the results of your 5 October 1993 ground water sampling event
and the 1991 RESNA subsurface investigation report which was not in our files. Thank you for this
submittal. You stated in your letter that monitoring wells MW-3, MW-10 and;MW-11 were either
damaged or destroyed. If these wells cannot be redeveloped or repaired, they must be properly
abandoned and new monitoring wells drilled to-replace them.
Based on this recent round of sampling and the 1991 RESNA report, the contamination in the
shallow ground water is fairly well defined. Therefore, by 20 December 1993, please submit a
remedial action plan and schedule to cleanup the shallow ground water zone, and a work plan and
schedule to test deeper ground water zones for possible migration of the gasoline contamination.
If you have any questions, please contact me at (916) 255-3054.
DAVID E.
