e a
Geological Technics lnp ` Page 3
Former Moresco Property
Soil Boring Report
Project No.251:2
May 12, 1995
I
the readings above background on a organic vapormeter (OVM). The OVM is a
field portable photo ionization detector, that uses a 10.2 eV lamp to detect
compounds with ionization potential below 10.2 eV (hydrocarbon range). The
OVM will register concentrations as low 'as 0.1 ppm (parts per million). The
boring log illustrates these screening observations .
2.3 Soil Sample Analyses
All -I
 .. '
samples collected for possible an' yses were relinquished to Sherwood
Laboratories of Hilmar (DHS# 1400). Geological Technics Inc. selected certain
samples for laboratory analyses. These samples were tested for benzene, toluene,
total xylenes and ethylbenzene (BTEX) by EPA method 8020 and Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbons as Gasoline (TPH-Gas) ,by EPA Method 8015 modified. The
4 remaining samples :were placed on hold at the laboratory until the 30 day {
holding time expired. A sample from SB-1 from the 19.5 - 20.0 foot interval was
also tested for total Iead using EPA 7420.
The detection limits for BTEX is 5.0 µg/kg (ppb), 1.0 mg/kg for TPH-Gas and 5.0
mg/kg
2.4 Borehole Closure
After successfully collecting the bottom, hole soil sample the soil borings were
closed by pumping a neat cement grout (augmented with <4% bentonite) using a
r tremie pipe to grade with a slurry pump. All grouting was conducted under the
L supervision of SJCPHSEHD personnel.
2.5 Disposition of Soil Cutting
Soil cutting generated during the soil boring installation was added to the UST
removal spoils stockpile.
3.0 RESULTS OF INVESTIGATION
The data collected during this investigation have been summarized in the
following sections.
r 3.1 Site Geology I
The detailed boring logs are attached in Appendix B and a geologic cross section
is presented in Figure 3.
i
}
c
