' toward the north Silty gravel and medium to coarse grained poorly graded sand deposits were
' encountered in borings TR-7 and TR-14 generally below 15 to 17 feet bgs
Shallow groundwater was encountered at depths ranging from approximately 5 to 9 feet bgs
' (Table 2) Some of the water levels on Table 2 were not stabilized prior to measurement
Generally, two water-beanng units were encountered 1) a shallow groundwater unit generally in
the upper 12 feet within the silty and clayey sand layers, and 2) a deeper groundwater unit
generally below 15 to 17 feet bgs within the silty gravel and poorly graded sand layers (Figures 5
' and 6) Slower recovery of groundwater was encountered in the bonngs drilled on the northern
portion of the investigation area where the shallow sandier layers pinch out The deeper
groundwater unit produced significantly more water than the shallower unit
1 52 Soil Analytical Results
lie The shallow and deeper soil samples results are discussed in the following sections and
summarized on Table 3 The soil samples were not tested for TPH-let fuel
5 2.1 Shallow Soil Sample Results
' Fifteen shallow soil samples were collected on the 541 Site from depths of 3 5 to 6 feet bgs
between the fill and the top of groundwater The shallow soil sample results are shown on
' Figure 7 Due to the limited available sampling interval, some of the shallow soil samples were
unavoidably taken within the contaminated groundwater capillary fringe
TPH-gasoline was not detected above the reporting limit in the shallow soil TPH-diesel ranged
' from <0 99 to 48 ppm and TPH-motor oil ranged from <5 0 to 170 ppm The highest values
were detected at TR-9 (TPH-diesel at 59 ppm and TPH-motor oil at 350 ppm) for the sample
ianalyzed without silica gel cleanup This sample along with several other shallow soil samples
were logged as moist and are likely influenced by the groundwater capillary fringe MTBE and
iBTEX were not detected above the reporting limits, with the exception of TR-8 that had a total
xylene value of 0 0091 ppm Hydrocarbon odors were detected below the groundwater in the
Field Investigation Report 13 S December 2003
' TREADWELL&ROLLO,INC
