s
D. Types and Quantities of Waste Streams or Residues Generated.
1. Gases and Particulates. The Bio-Rem Process produces carbon dioxide
as part of the biological remediation process. No particulates are generated.
2. Liquids. No haste liquids are generated.
3. Solids and Sludges. Biomass from the propagation of bacterial cells
is produced. When the cultures die after consuming the hydrocarbon contaminate,
the bacterial biomass degrades into natural elements resulting from the
composition of living matter.
E. History/Background of the Bio-Rem Process Development.
The use of bacterial cultures as a weans of remediating hydrocarbon
contaminates dates back to the early 19501x. The Bin-Rem, Inc. H-10 Product use
developed over a period of ten years.
In January of 1990, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) allowed
bioremediation to be conducted for the clean-up of hydrocarbon contamination in
soils and aster. Bio-Rem obtained it's first approval to conduct In Situ
Subsurface Bioremediation in the State of Indiana in May of 1990. The company
has continued to expand, and as a result has to date over fifty sites completed
or undervey in 13 states.
F. Advantages Over Similar Technology.
Bio-Resp, Inc. 's Process is the only commercially available method of
subsurface bioremediation. It's advantages over other bioremediation methods
are many. Bic-Rein's Process does not require excavation of the contaminate
plume, does not require °Air Sparging°, does not require oxygen compounds, e.g.
hydrogen peroxide, does not product particulate natter, and unlike land farming
and/or aeration, does not release VOCs into the atmosphere. Bio-Rem, Inc. 's
Process does not require a bioreactor, fixed film or otherwise, and does not
require constant nutrient loading. Because Bio-gem's Process is In Situ
Subsurface, substantial savings can be realized over other methodologies.
