CHEAPER! #37 <br /> +- SUMMARY OF SITE CHARACTERIZATION REPORT OF APRIL 20 1993 <br /> a. INTRODUCTION <br /> An investigation was conducted by Parker Environmental Services to assess the <br /> horizontal and vertical extent of the petroleum product migration in the soil <br /> and groundwater at the Cheaper! #37 Facility at 15 East Grant Line Road, Tracy, <br /> California. The source of the petroleum product was two underground storage tanks <br /> maintained at the facility until March 3, 1989. <br /> SCOPE OF WORK <br /> Soil borings were drilled in the vicinity of the former UST location to collect <br /> soil samples for chemical analysis. Well logs of nearby domestic, irrigation, <br /> and municipal wells were reviewed to assess the stratigraphy in the site <br /> vicinity, and to locate and evaluate the presence of potential confining layers. <br /> Three groundwater monitoring wells were installed and groundwater samples <br /> collected for chemical analysis. Soil and water samples were analyzed in the <br /> L, laboratory for key petroleum product constituents. Field and analytical data were <br /> evaluated to assess the horizontal and vertical extent of the petroleum product <br /> migration in soil and groundwater near the former, UST location. <br /> RESULTS <br /> +� Attached Table 1 summarized the well log data derived from document research to <br /> identify the area geology. The soil sample analytical results from Boring B-1 <br /> through B-7 are summarized in attached Table A. The groundwater analytical <br /> results from monitoring wells (MW) W-1 through W-6 are presented in Table 2. The <br /> number assigned to the wells in Table 1 do not correspond to B-1 to B-6 or W-1 <br /> to W-6. Attached Figure 3 displays the plan layout of the soil borings and <br /> monitoring wells. The estimated soil profile along section A is illustrated on <br /> LW attached Drawing 2. <br /> CONCLUSIONS <br /> The soil profile of the site consists of interbedded silty clay, sandy clay, <br /> fine-grained sand, medium-grained sand, clayey sand, to the depth of 10 feet. <br /> The upper units are underlain by medium-grained sand. The sand and clay stratum <br /> extends to 26.5 feet, the greatest depth explored during the investigation. The <br /> clay stratum encountered at this depth appears to represent the upper aquitard. <br /> This was identified by Kleinfelder (see Plate 7). <br /> The horizontal extent of petroleum product migration in soil extends <br /> L approximately 30 feet north, 15 east, 25 west, and 30 south of the former UST <br /> site. The estimated horizontal extent of the plume is shown in Drawing B. The <br /> estimated horizontal extent of petroleum hydrocarbon groundwater plume is shown <br /> s� in Drawing B.
