Water samples
from vapor wells VW4 and VW7 still have concentrations of total petroleum hydrocarbons as
gasoline that remain of concern. In a letter dated December 2, 2008, the EHD recommended
you consider purging more water from these wells prior to sample collection but that has not
been done. The EHD discussed this site with the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control
Board. In order to move this site towards a no further action required determination it is
recommended that you perform batch extraction on VW7 to reduce contaminant concentrations
or use a fate and transport model to estimate if the contaminants will reach water quality goals
in a reasonable amount of time.
The State Water Resources Control Board passed Resolution 2009-0042 on May 19, 2009, that
includes a resolve to reduce quarterly monitoring at underground storage tank cleanup sites to
semi-annual or less frequent unless quarterly monitoring is warranted. Therefore, monitoring
wells MW2, MW15, MW16, VW4 and VW7 can be placed on a semi-annual monitoring
frequency and MW 1, MW3 - MW11, MW14, PTW1, VW1, VW3 can be monitored on an annual
frequency.
If you have any questions contact me at (209)468-3449.
Margaret agorio, REH
Program Coordinator
c: Lee Ignatowicz, Stantec Consulting Corp., 3017 Kilgore Rd., Rancho Cordova, CA, 95670
Jim Barton, CVRWQCB
Rebecca Seevers, Target Corp., P.O.
