PHS/EHD has prepared the
following comments for your consideration.
PHS/EHD appreciates your continued efforts to maximize the operational time of the
existing vapor extraction system. PHS/EHD looks forward to the submittal of the annual
summary report that evaluates the system which should be submitted by December 31,
1996.
Regarding the directive PHS/EHD issued to install replacement wells for the plume
boundary wells, destroyed to facilitate the City of Stockton's March Lane/Pacific Avenue
intersection improvement project, there seems to be a misunderstanding regarding the City
of Stockton's proposed construction schedule. Construction is not anticipated to be
completed until 1998. The location of the replacement wells can be such that there would
be little likelihood of damage from nearby construction activities. Please submit by
February 1, 1997 a work plan to install the necessary wells to monitor the plume of
groundwater contamination and potential remediation results.
Should you wish to schedule a meeting with the City of Stockton and PHS/EHD, I would be
glad to arrange the meeting. If you have any questions or comments, please contact me at
(209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Mary Meays, Senior REHS Margareo,
Site Mitigation Unit Supervisor
MM\4707PAC
cc: Elizabeth Thayer, CVRWQCB
Greg Gurss, GeoStrategies
Ray Deyto, City of Stockton Public Works Department
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
