Box 5155
San Ranson, California 94583 ;
Subject: Status of Environmental Investigation at Unocal Service Station No. 6981,
4707 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, California.
Mr. Sisk:
i
At the request of Unocal Corporation, Applied GeoSystems, Inc. (Applied GeoSystents) is j
writing to report the status of the environmental investigation at the subject site. The
location of the project site is shown on the Site Vicinity Map (Plate P-1). 1
I
Previous Work j
Appiied Geo;ystems conducte,.i an initial investigation in May and June 1988 in conjunction IIE
j with the removal and replacement of gasoline-storage tanks (Applied GeoSystems, July 8, E
1988. Report No.38032-1). Results of field work and laboratory analyses indicated gasoline !I
i,ydrocarbons were present in soil under the former tanks. In December 1988, we
performed a soil-vapor survey and results indicated low levels of gasoline hydrocarbons were
present in vapor in one probe hole near the southwest corner of the site. On the basis of
these results, Unocal requested an investigrtion of the soil and ground water beneath the
site.
I
During January and February 1990,five soli borings and five monitoring wells were installed
at the site. The locations of the monitoring wells are shown on the Generalized Site Plan
(Plate P-2). Soil sample results indicated detectable concentrations of hydrocarbons
remained in the soil. Water sample results indicated detectable concentrations of dissolved
hydroc:,rbons, nitrate and total and fecal coliform bacteria were in the ground water beneath k
the site. We recommended *Initiating the quarterly monitoring program performing
additional work to assess hydrocarbons in the soil, and conducting a vapor-extraction test I
to evaluate the feasibility of remediating the soil and water-bearing tone (Applied
-GeoSystems; in progress, Report No.38032-3).
i
111MI PRE
