4.0 COMPLETION OF EVALUATION MONITORING
The evaluation monitoring program, which was not completed in October 2004 due to poor
site conditions and property access issues, will be continued in order to complete the
characterization of the lateral and vertical extent of contamination to the west and southwest
of the SMS Briners facility(LSCE, 2004c). The data collected from this portion of the
evaluation monitoring program will be combined with previously collected data to refine the
design of corrective action measures at the SMS Briners and Kruger Foods facilities. The
remaining portion of the evaluation monitoring field work is located entirely on the property
adjacent to the SMS Briners facility and owned by Arnold Souza. Although site access was
apparently granted by Mr. Sousa during the initial portion of the evaluation monitoring
program, confirmation of site access to land in which Mr. Sousa actively farms (and where
the additional field work will be conducted) will be necessary. SMS Briners, along with
assistance on an as needed basis from the RWQCB, will take the lead in securing site access
from Mr. Souza prior to the evaluation monitoring field work being scheduled with the CPT
contractor. In addition, site preparation work to support the drilling rig will be necessary to
access the additional CPT/Hydropunch locations located on W. Sousa's property.
r The water quality data collected during this phase of the evaluation monitoring program to
characterize the western extent of impacted groundwater are necessary to finalize the location
for a test well/extraction well. Following the completion of the evaluation monitoring field
work, a letter report will be submitted to the RWQCB that includes the results of the CPT
investigation and finalizes the location for a test well/extraction well (discussed further in
Section 6).
© LUHDORFF & SCALMANINI
CONSULTING ENGINEERS 6
