f
GEOMATRIX
Mr. Don Culbertson
Chevron Pipe Line Company-
12 January 1995
Page 4
affected soil. Moreover, these cross-sections show clearly
that affected soil lies in the
' saturated zone, and that monitoring wells are located immediately within and downgradient
of affected soil. . Groundwater samples from the wells downgradient:of affected soil are not
impacted by dissolved petroleum constituents. Groundwater samples collected from wells
screened across affected soil appear to be impacted by non-dissolved petroleum fractions
(TPH) but not by BTEX or PNAs; which is likely an artifact of sampling and the non-
specific nature of TPH (EPA Method 8015) analyses with respect to the actual constituents
present within the subject boiling range.
CONCLUSIONS :
Basedon the site characterization work conducted to date.(including the replacement wells),
monitoring wells are strategically located within and/or downgradient of each area of soil
affected by residual separate-phase petroleum. The wells, therefore, are sufficient to monitor
site groundwater and the potential for dissolved-phase transport of petroleum constituents.
We will implement the well destruction and installation program described herein upon
RWQCB approval of this work plan. Once the wells have been installed, we will commence
with the second quarter of groundwater sampling (January through March 1995) in
accordance with the Monitoring and Reporting Program dictated for the site.
4 Please contact either Mike Keim or me if you have any questions or require further
information.
Ll
Sincerely,
GEO TRIX CONSULTANTS, INC.
I
S
` awn A.
