TL 492-0181-01 Page 2
The scope of our field investigation .is as follows:
o Drill three test borings to a minimum of 25 feet below
site grade (BSG) .
o Conduct standard penetration ' tests and retrieve
undisturbed shelby tube samples.
o Measure groundwater depth.
o Backfill borings with bentonite chips and neat cement.
i
The scope of our field and laboratory investigation does not
include the analysis of soil or groundwater samples for petro-
chemicals or any chemical constituents.
The soils are being investigated for a proposed 72-inch
diameter pipeline that will be placed so that the existing canal
can be backfilled. The existing canal is about 11 feet deep and j
contains about 2 feet of water at the present time. The proposed
i
pipeline will be placed at a depth of about 17 feet below site
I
grade. The intent of our investigation is to provide design and
construction recommendations for the pipeline.
Drilling Procedures
The test borings will be drilled using a CME-75 drill rig
provided by The Twining Laboratories, Inc. (Twining) equipped with
6-5/8 inch outside diameter (O.D. ) hollow stem auger. Drilling
i
operations will be under the direction of a Twining staff engineer.
The soils encountered in the test borings will be logged.
Standard penetration tests will be conducted, and both
disturbed and undisturbed soil samples will be obtained. Standard
penetration tests will be conducted at depth intervals of 5 feet.
Fresno Modesto Visalia Bakersfield
4
