Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
RE: DISPOSAL OF STOCKPILED SOILS
DOANE PRODUCTS COMPANY
450 E. GRANTLINE ROAD,TRACY, CA
Dear Ms. Meays:
This letter has been prepared to document the stockpiled soil disposal performed by
Brunsing Associates, Inc. (BAI) on behalf of Doane Products Company (DPC). BAI
performed stockpile characterization and disposal of approximately 1,200 cubic yards
of soil from the DPC facility located at 450 East Grantline Road in Tracy, California.
5
STOCKPILE CHARACTERIZATION
On September 9, 1992, BAI split the existing stockpiles into two stockpiles of
preliminary volume estimates of 400 LCY and 800 LCY. Stockpile splitting was
completed to separate soils with visible staining.
On September 11, 1992, the stockpiles were sampled for analytical profiling. Soil
samples were obtained from the stockpiles in a systematic random approach to fully
characterize the soils. The stockpile were divided into 50 cubic yard sections
composed of four 12.5 cubic yards quadrants. One sample was obtained from each
quadrant at a random depth i-vithin the stockpile. Soil samples were obtained from
freshly exposed soils using a clean brass tube driven into the soil. After collection
the ends of each tube were covered with aluminum foil and polyethylene end caps
were placed on the tubes. The soil samples were labeled and each sample was sealed
in a zip-lock bag. The samples were placed in a cooler containing blue ice
maintaining the temperature at less than 4°C for transport under chain-of-custody
procedures to BALE Analytical and Field Services (BAFS). The soil samples were
composited by BAFS and transported to Sequoia Analytical for analysis. The soil
samples were characterized by the following analytical methods as required by BFI -
Vasco Road landfill for acceptance of soils from a known diesel contamination
source:
1735 East Bayshore road, Suite 2A, Redwood City, California 94063 Phone (415) 364-9030 Fax (415) 364-9032
