1 <br /> contamination near the location of the single contaminated soil sample from the <br /> perimeter of the remedial excavation A hand auger method was used because the <br /> location of the boring inside the restroom was not accessible by a drill rig <br /> ' Soil borings were togged by a qualified geologist according to the Uru#i <br /> ed Soil <br /> Classification System (USCS) and completed boring logs are included as Appendix <br /> ' A Soils logged in H-1, H-2 and H-3 were predominately clayey silt throughout the <br /> upper native soil zone to a depth of the water at 7 5 to 8 0 feet Soils logged in boring <br /> ' H-4 consisted of fill material which had been backfilled during the remedial <br /> excavation in December of 1991, indicating that the excavation extended underneath <br /> the side walk by at least two feet After completion of the soil sampling, the borings <br /> were sealed using a bentonite grout mix containing approximately five percent <br /> bentonite by weight <br /> ' Samples were collected in borings H-1, H-2 and H-3 at a depth defined by the first <br /> groundwater occurring at 7 5 to 8 0 feet below existing grade No soil sample was <br /> collected from boring H-4 because soils at this location were found to be gravel <br /> ' backfill from the remedial excavation Brass sample tubes containing the soil <br /> samples were sealed with aluminum foil, capped, labelled and placed in zip-lock <br /> bags The samples were transported under chain-of-custody procedures in insulated <br /> containers at 4-C to BACE Analytical and Field Services (BAFS), a California-EPA <br /> certified analytical laboratory <br /> 2.2 SOIL SAMPLE ANALYTICAL AND RESULTS <br /> ' Soil samples were analyzed by BAFS for the following <br /> ' Analysis Method <br /> TPHd EPA 3550/GC FID <br /> Benzene, Toluene, EthY lbenzene <br /> and Xylene (BTEX) EPA 5030/8020 <br /> ' No detectable concentrations of an of h <br /> y the analytes were reported in either of the <br /> ' three soil samples A summary of the analytical data is contained in Table 1 <br /> 3 <br />
