1 contamination near the location of the single contaminated soil sample from the perimeter of the remedial excavation A hand auger method was used because the location of the boring inside the restroom was not accessible by a drill rig ' Soil borings were togged by a qualified geologist according to the Uru#i ed Soil Classification System (USCS) and completed boring logs are included as Appendix ' A Soils logged in H-1, H-2 and H-3 were predominately clayey silt throughout the upper native soil zone to a depth of the water at 7 5 to 8 0 feet Soils logged in boring ' H-4 consisted of fill material which had been backfilled during the remedial excavation in December of 1991, indicating that the excavation extended underneath the side walk by at least two feet After completion of the soil sampling, the borings were sealed using a bentonite grout mix containing approximately five percent bentonite by weight ' Samples were collected in borings H-1, H-2 and H-3 at a depth defined by the first groundwater occurring at 7 5 to 8 0 feet below existing grade No soil sample was collected from boring H-4 because soils at this location were found to be gravel ' backfill from the remedial excavation Brass sample tubes containing the soil samples were sealed with aluminum foil, capped, labelled and placed in zip-lock bags The samples were transported under chain-of-custody procedures in insulated containers at 4-C to BACE Analytical and Field Services (BAFS), a California-EPA certified analytical laboratory 2.2 SOIL SAMPLE ANALYTICAL AND RESULTS ' Soil samples were analyzed by BAFS for the following ' Analysis Method TPHd EPA 3550/GC FID Benzene, Toluene, EthY lbenzene and Xylene (BTEX) EPA 5030/8020 ' No detectable concentrations of an of h y the analytes were reported in either of the ' three soil samples A summary of the analytical data is contained in Table 1 3
