f
1
1.0 Introduction
The scope of work for the Doane Products Company (DPC) facility at 450 E. Grantline
Road in Tracy, California as located on Figure 1, will be to C.ctermine the extent of
soil and groundwater contamination at a former.Underground Storage Tank (UST)
site. The proposed investigation includes the placement of one monitoring well.
two piezometers, and two soil borings at the location of three UST that were
removed in January 1990. This workplan is a revised version of the workplan
a submitted to San Joaquin County, Environmental Health Division (SJCEHD) by
Environmental Audit & Consulting in May 1990 and addresses review comments of
the SJCEHD.
1.1 Site History
The property was purchased, in 1985 by DPC from Yandell Trucking Co., which had
the tanks installed in 1963. The following tanks existed on the property:
Tank ID# Size Gal. Contents
#39-2441-01 2000 Unleaded Gasoline
x #39-2441-02 10,000 Diesel
#39-2441-03 10,000 Diesel
I The tanks were used for fuel service for the trucking company. In 1985, after the
purchase of the facilities from Yandell, DPC took the tanks out of commission. The
tanks were emptied at that time.
On January 16, 1990, the Jim Thorpe Oil Company, a licensed tank removal
r company, removed the three tanks 39-2441-01, 02 and 03 from the rear yard of the
Tracy Facility of DPC. The contractor was assisted by FGL Laboratory personnel.
Sampling at the time of tank removal indicated the presence of petroleum
hydrocarbons in the soil and seep water as summarized in Table 1. Laboratory data
' sheets are included as Appendix A. The contractor partially refilled the tank
excavations and ceased all additional remediation. The three tanks were removed
from the site and disposed of properly. (See Appendix B.)
i 1.2 Leak Estimates
Based upon laboratory results obtained by the tank removal firm, it is estirzated that
the quantity of petroleum product introduced into the environment is small. i
Samples were taken in an area less than fifty feet in diameter. Only one soil sample
showed detectable hydrocarbons and it would be classified as the upgradient sample.
A high water table at this location facilitated groundwater seepage into the x
f excavation. A grab sample of this water showed levels consistent with the single
contaminated soil sample. In the initial workplan, Environmental Audit &
Consulting estimates that less than 20 gallons of fuel had spilled and that it was
 1
 l
-..
