a M
w
Clayton
E`11RU\'kSE\1:4L
_. C!)ASUf IhVTS
All concentrations are in mg/kg(milligrams for kilogram, or parts per million)
Although regulatory action levels are not set for oil and grease, whe:I
concentrations exceed 100 parts per million (ppm) the RWQCB's
Recommendations for the Evaluation and Investigation of USTs requires a
soil/groundwater investigation. The concentrations of oil and grease found in the
soil at 6 feet in MW-3 puts the site into the RWQCB's "Case I"category requiring
a soil/groundwater investigation. This requirement is satisfied by the current study.
The RWQCB devel, ped the 100 ppm level to help prioritize cases, not as a
cleanup level. The level of cleanup is determined by assessing the potential for
soil contamination to impact groundwater.
Hydrocarbon oil and grease were detected in soil samples from MW-1 and MW-2,
but are within acceptable levels as determined by the RWQCB. Clayton
speculates that the oil and grease found in MW-1 and MW-2 may have come
from oil-based sprays applied to the site for agricultural purposes.
Organochlorine Pesticides and PCBs
Pesticides and PCBs were below detection limits in all soil samples.
4.3 GROUNDWATER SAMPLE ANALYSES
Groundwater samples were collected on April 6, 1990, in accordance with the
sampling protocols in Appendix C. Table 3 summarizes analytical results and
compares our findings to the California Department of Health Services (DHS)
action levels. Table 3 reports only detected compounds. All other compounds ,
analyzed were below analytical detection limits (Appendix F).
Lf.A Metltad 802 1V11V la
far
Acttortv1s
-- EAh ]benzene 0.3 620
Xylenes 3.0
680
I~l'A lVlethad €l15
•
fat•
Total Petroleum 130 N/A
-Hydrocarbons as -
-- _ Gasoline
All concentrations are in ugjL,(micrograms per liter, or parts per billion)
Gasoline and BTEX
Water samples from.MW-3 showed low levels of gasoline, ethylbenzene, and
Xylene. The ethylbenzene and xylene are below California DHS action levels.
Action levels are not defined for gasoline in groundwater; however, the
concentration.of gasoline in MW-3 is very low. MW-1 and MW-2 slid not have
detectable concentrations of gasoline or BTEX in the water.
-5-
