r _
t'
Clayton
I%N Nr.;ft.
cups i.twts
Ms. Laurie Cotulla
June 11, 1990
Fage 4
TASI ? - SOIL EXCAVATION
Clayton proposes to excavate soils togroundwater in the vicinity of the former UST
and MW-3 (Figure 2). The excavation process will be supervised by a Claytran
geologist er environmental engineer. We estimate excavation of about 300 cubic
yards of soil. Operations will be monitored with an orgar.iic vapor meter (OVM) to
assure that all contaminated soils are excavated. Confirmation samples will be
collected from the excavation walls and analyzed by the fol, owing Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) methods:
EPA Method 5030/8015-5020, for TPH as gasoline and BTEX
.EPA Method 418.1, for total recoverable hydrocarbons and oil and grease
• TASK 3 - SOIL AERATION
Aeration of contaminated soils will be accomplished by spreading the soils in a thin
layer (approximately six inches thick) on a o!
soils. To remain in compliance with the Air PollutionrDiistrictner tguidelines, rotects face
f
maximum of 300 cubic yards of soil will be aerated per day,
As a safety measure, the excavation area will be temporarily fenced and the walls
of the excavation will be sloped.
TASK 4 SOIL AEPUTION AND MONITORING
The excavated soils will be periodically rototilled to expose additional soils to
aeration. One discrete confirmation sample for each 25 yd'of aerated soil will be
f collected and analyzed for the contaminants previously noted. Pending approval of
your agency and the Regional Board, the remediated sail will be backfilled in the
Excavated hole and compacted. A new monitoring well will be placed in a corner of
4' the excavation for future monitorin'o' baseline environmental conditions. This
well will be resurveyed by a licensed land surveyor.
• TASK 5 -FINAL REPORTING -
-
Upon completion of the project, Clayton will prepare a report summarizing the
findings: This report will include site activities, background soil sampling and
laboratory analysis, and our conclusions and recommendationF.
