455 West Grant Line
Page 2
I
The current trench running east west has monitoring wells, MW8 (screened from 6-16')
MW9 (screened from 2-8') and MW10 (screened from 2.5-8') plumbed for use as vapor
extraction wells; however, screened horizontal piping was not installed. Fluor-Daniel GTI
indicated that installation and operation of a low flow bio-sparge system could result in the
vertical migration of .petroleum hydrocarbon vapors and therefore, was not recommended
for installation and/or operation at this time.
Greater detail was provided in Fluor-Daniel GTI correspondence dated August 12, 1996 i
regarding the proposed piping configuration. Despite, PHSIEHD's many references to soil
contamination and difficulties assessing contaminant mass given scant soil data, samples
were not collected when the tanks were removed, Fluor-Daniel GTI clearly stated that the
installation of any future soil borings or wells would be dependent on soil and groundwater
analytical data obtained following the installation of the two wells proposed.
i
Please be aware that given current information, it is essentially impossible to evaluate i
remedial alternatives. Hopefully, the proposed groundwater extraction system will control
f. the migration of the groundwater, plume and sufficiently dewater areas of the site so that
further information can be obtained to evaluate alternatives.
}
f
To install the two proposed groundwater extraction wells, please submit a drilling permit
application and $89 permit fee. j
If you have any questions or comments, please contact me at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Mary Meays, Senior REHS Margaret Lagorio, REHS
Site Mitigation Unit Lead Senior
MM1455GL
cc: Elizabeth Thayer, CVRWQCB
cc: Al Ellis, Rishwain, Hakeem and Ellis
cc: Jaff Auchterlonie, Fluor Daniel GTI
6
y
