PHS/EHD has the following comments for your consideration.
The indication on Table 1, Historical Groundwater Monitoring and Analytical Data" of the notation "ND"
does not provide specific information regarding the method detection limit which was utilized during the
analysis of individual samples. PHS/EHD has verbally requested that the use of this notation be
discontinued and replaced with a less than notation followed by the method detection limit. Please revise
analytical summary tables to reflect the actual detection limit which was used.
PHS/EHD stated in correspondence dated November 29, 1993 and August 31, 1994 that a sampling
frequency reduction was granted for MW2, MW3, MW6, MW71, and MW15 from quarterly to semi-
annually. Monitoring well, MW1, appears to have been placed on a semi-annual sampling frequency.
Please note that during the next quarterly sampling event, all monitoring wells associated with this site
should be sampled.
PHS/EHD has been informed that groundwater extraction was initiated on October 8, 1995.
Approximately 2.3 gpm with a drawdown of 18 feet in the groundwater extraction well has been
observed; the influence throughout the site has yet to be determined. Please proceed with efforts to
upgrade the remediation system to include soil remediation, as was indicated in the final remediation plan
which was approved in PHS/EHD correspondence dated July 9, 1993. As you know the soil
contamination which has been evidenced will continue to impact the groundwater resource, until such
time as the concentrations are reduced sufficiently to no longer pose a threat to the resource.
If you have any questions, comments, or wish to schedule a site inspection, please contact Mary Meays at
(209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental HealthDivision
Mary Meays, Senior REHS Diane M.
