f
Summary of Well Destruction r i
The Southland Corporation,455 Grant Une.Road Tracy.CA June 1,1995
is, I
The well casings were drilled out using a truck-mounted drill rig equipped with 10-inch-diameter
hollow-stem augers. Prior to grouting, each boring was gauged and cleared of any obstructions that
could prevent the free flow of cement from the bottom of each boring. All drilling equipment was steam }
cleaned prior to drilling.
f,
ai
Approximately 60 gallons of neat cement slurry was pumped from the bottom of each boring to
approximately 2 feet below grade fusing tremie pipe. Grouting of the borings was observed by a
Hazardous Materials Specialist of the SJCPHS-EHD. After letting the grout set,the remaining 2 to 3
feet of boring was filled to grade with native soil.
Approximately .5 cubic yard of soil was generated during drilling. The soil was placed on and covered
with plastic sheeting on site pending characterization and disposal. Soil samples were collected from
the soil stock pile and submitted to GTEL analytical laboratories in Concord, California and analyzed for
BTEX,TPH-G, and organic leadby Environmental Protection Agency(I=PA) methods 8020/8015
modified.
4
No benzene or TPH-G concentrations were detected in the soil samples collected from the stock pile.
Approval for soil disposal by spreading it on the adjacent lot to the north was obtained from the
SJCPHS-EHD and from the adjacent property owner on May 8, 1995. Rinse water generated during
steam cleaning of augers was stored on site in a Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved
55-gallon drum pending transportation and disposal.
