Cotulla
REKS, Program Manager
San Joaquin County Punic Health Services
16DI East Hazelton Avenue
Stockton, California 95205
SUBJECT: SOUTHLAND STORE NO. 20304'
453 GRANT UNE ROAD
TRACY, CAUFORNIA
Dear Ms. Caotuk:
Groundwater Technology, Inc. has prepared bila letter on behalf of The Srfuthiand Corporation to
request abandomunarrt of selected wells, and rescheduling of other wefts to annual sampling at the above
referenced site (Figure 2). The results of quarterly groundwater sanding conducted at the site over the
past several years reveal that many of the wells continue to remain below laboratory rrmthod detection
Bnft (MDL) for dissolved benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX),and tortai petroleum
hydrocabons-as-gasoline (TPH-G). Welts MW-4,6, 11, 17, 13, 14, and 15 have never had dissolved
hydrocarbon concent atione above the MDI-s. Similarly,MW-2, MW-3, and MM have had orgy one or
two reported BTEX or TPH-jG concentrations at or slightly exceeding the MDLs (fable 1).
Due to the current monitoring well array. an overt:overage of the "zero-line"for dissolved petroleum
hydrocarbons exists to the north-northeast and south of the dissolved plurne center (around MW-10).
Groundwater Technology requests approval for abwWonrnent of wells MWA2. MW-13, MWA4. and
MVV 15 across the northemr extent of the property. The zero-line can be adequately defined in ails
area by monitoring and sampling MW-5,which has remained below MDL,s for several consecutive
quarters (Table 1). MW4 to the south(upgradierrty of the plume center has never had reported
concentrations for dissolved petroleurn hydrocarbons and sixfold be atfarrdoned as well.
Of the remaining perimeter wells (MW 2. MW-3, MW-5, MW-6, and MW-11), R Is requested that these
wells be switched to an annual groundwater sarv#Ing schedule due to consistent nondetectable levels.
The remaining wells at the site would continue to be sampled on a quarterly schedule.
Offir s Mrwphou!the U3.Caw&uad Ovo-ge s
