PHS/EHD has the following comments for your
consideration.
PHS/EHD requested,in correspondence dated February 17, 1993,that soil contamination be addressed in the
Remedial Action Plan. The Addendum No.2 indicated that once groundwater extraction achieved sufficient
dewatering, that a vapor extraction pilot test would be conducted. These test results would then be evaluated
to determine if a vapor extraction system would provide effective soil remediation. The time line included in
the Addendum scheduled the soil vapor pilot test for August 9, 1993.
Additional soil contamination,at 8 and at 15 feet, was evidenced during the installation of the groundwater
extraction well, GWE-I. Soil contamination in contact with the groundwater continues to provide a source
of contamination to groundwater.
The time line also indicated that a remedial action plan summary report would be submitted September 2,
1993. Within this report, the full extent of soil contamination should be presented in analytical tables and
graphically on a site map.
If you have any questions, comments,or wish to schedule a site inspection, please contact Mary Meays,Senior
REHS, of my staff at (209) 468-0337.
Jogi Khanna, M.D., M.P.H.
Health Officer
urie A.
