FLUOR DANIEL GTI
April 21, 1998
Mr. Harlin Knoll
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
P.O. Box 388, 304 East Weber Avenue
Stockton, California 95201-388
Subject: Southland Facility#20304
455 Grant Line Road
Tracy, California
FDGTI Project Number 102480
Mr Knoll:
The purpose of this letter is to describe proposed well destruction procedures for three groundwater
monitoring wells(MW-8,MW-9, and MW-10) and one groundwater extraction well (GWE-3) at the subject
site (See attached site map). The wells will be destroyed as part of the proposed soil excavation as
described in Fluor Daniel GTI's Remedial Action Plan for Soil Excavation dated January 26, 1998. The
wells be destroyed in accordance with State of California Water Well Standards, Bulletin 74-90, Section 16
for destruction of monitoring wells, and in accordance with San Joaquin County Public Health Services
requirements.
The three wells groundwater monitoring wells(MW-8, MW-9,and MW-10)are constructed of 4-inch-
diameter PVC casing with a total depth of 8 to 10.5 feet below ground surface (BGS). One well
groundwater extraction well (GWE-3) is constructed of 6-inch-diameter PVC casing with a total depth of 19
feet BGS. Well MW-8 is screened from 5 to 10.5 feet BGS. Wells MW-9 and MWA 0 are screened from 2
to 8 feet BGS. Well GWE-3 is screened from 4 to 14 feet BGS with blank casing installed to 19 feet BGS.
The wells will be destroyed by pressure grouting. The well casings will be grouted with Portland cement
using a 1-inch diameter tremie pipe. Following placement of the grout inside the well casing, approximately
30 psi of air pressure will be applied to the top of each casing using an air compressor. Air pressure will be
applied at 5 minute intervals until there is no noticeable drop in grout inside the casing. The top 5 feet of
casing will be removed during the proposed soil excavation.
If there are any questions regarding this request, please feel free to call me at our Martinez office at(510)
370-3990.
Sincerely,
Fluor Daniel GTI, Inc.
9
a o cit_
David Bean
Staff Geologist
757 Arnold Drive, Suite D /Martinez, CA 94553 USA (510) 370-3990 FAX(510) 370-3991
