1 '
June 12, 1987 -
87-4694.03 Harding t a; san ks:eclat®s
Mr. Walt Lubcke
7-Eleven Stores
Page 3
5. Purge and sample each boring and check for free product after
the boring has recovered for several hours. Each boring will then
be seated with a cement bentonite grout.
6. Site and construct two shallow wells downgradient of the tanks if
F free product is found. The wells may only extend to a depth of
10 to 15 feet and will have 4-inch diameters so that they can be
used in later phaees for extraction.
7. Drill and sample one boring upgradient of the tanks and then
construct a 2-inch monitoring well in the borehole.
8. Evaluate distribution of BTX and EDB in the ground water to
differentiate the gasoline source.
9. Summarize our findings in a report and provide recommendations
for the location of an extraction well and for subsequent field
testing.
r 10. Consult with local regulatory agencies to evaluate various options E
for ground-water remediation.
1 3
All wells in the pavement area will be completed below grade with a:lockable,
watertight cap and encased in a Cristy box. Flush-threaded Schedule 40 PVC
Pipe will be used for all wells. Borings will be backfiiled with a cement-
bentonite slurry. All water and soil will be stored in drums on site.
We understand that The Southland Corporation intends to relocate the underground tanks southeast of their present location in September 1987. A
future phase of our investigation should be to provide observations during the
1 removal of the tanks and gasoline-laden soils and ground water from the tank
excavat:rn. After the excavation is complete, we would also propose to install
an extraction well in the excavation, perform a pump test, and design and
r implement a plan to remediate BTX in the ground water.
SCHEDULE-AND FFF '
--We propose to perform the services described above on a time-and expense basis
for an estimated fee of $18,075 as detailed below. The fee estimate µ,ill not be
y exceeded wiYhout.your authorization. We request that the terms and fee
schedule of our national contract with The Southland Corporation apply to this .
phase of the project.
