P
1
Warding Lawacn Associates
VII. RECOMMENDATIONS
on the basis of our review of all data and the evaluations
z iA performed in the feasibility study, HLA presents the following
recommendations for soil and ground-water remediation.
A. Ground Water
HLA recommends the installation of a series of active hori-
zontal extraction drains for the control and removal of ground
water containing gasoline hydrocarbons. This drain system would
! be installed near the surface of the water table below the soil-
f:
s ff venting.systen. A surface suction pump will assist in the devel-
opment of a drawdown zone. Both the soil-venting and ground-
{.
water extraction systems would beplaced in .the same trench, The
s development of a drawdown zone would not only assist in capturing I
and removing water in which gasoline hydrocarbons_ are.present,
6.r but it. would alsfl help prevent ground water from being drawn up
Li into the soil--venting system during its. operation. Water gener- .
# aced during the operation of the horizontal extraction system
will either be disposed of off-site without any prior treatment
rl or treated on-site with activated carbon and then discharged into
the storm sewer :system. The choice of.a water treatment`alterna-
s tive will be made during the initial system start-up when the
quantity of water actually generated can be more accurately '
u y
determined
21
MA
G.v.5- ...' ...'.:- _....... ..:.
