L
too,
LINTRODUCTION
SCOPE
LThe objectives of this investigation were to:
1) determine if the gasoline hydrocarbons found in a 1986 field
investigation at the Tracy service center originated from the
underground gasoline storage tank, and
L2) quantify the horizontal and vertical extent of elevated gasoline
hydrocarbon levels in the subsurface soil and groundwater that may
have originated from the former underground gasoline storage tank.
The methodology followed during this investigation was outlined in the
Proposed Workplan for the Tracy Service Center - Preliminary Underground
Tank Investigation, which was submitted to the San Joaquin County Health
Department and the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board on
LSeptember 29, 1987.
SITE DESCRIPTION
L mole The Tracy Service Center is located in the city of Tracy, between llth and
20th Streets adjacent to the Southern Pacific Railroad right-of-way (see
L Figure 1) . The site is wholly owned by PG&E, and is used as a service
center and substation. Office space and vehicle service bays comprise the
only building located onsite. The site is entirely paved with asphalt
and concrete except for the substation, which is graveled (see Figure 2) .
The site is surrounded by agricultural land and a hardware factory to the
Least; a railroad, pet food plant and form manufacturing company to the west;
manufacturing facilities to the south; and residential property to the
north. The entire area is zoned limited industrial except to the northwest,
which is zoned residential.
LBACKGROUND
This investigation centered around the former fuel tank facility, located at
LPG&E's Tracy service center, which consisted of a 1500 gallon steel
single-walled underground gasoline storage tank, a fuel pump island and
L
L3286a/BAV100 1
