radicals, much the same way as peroxide. In situ decomposition of ozone ,
can also lead to beneficial oxygenation and biostimulation. Although F
conventional air sparging was ruled out as a feasible remediation
alternative for the site due to the inability to vapor extract in the vadose
zone, air sparging itself would work for ozone injection if soil vapor r
extraction is not required. In addition, since a gas is injected, it may be
possible for some remediation to also take place in the vadose zone as
well.
l
In-situ chemical oxidation, namely by ozone sparging, appears to be a }
viable means of remediation for the site. This method would be much '
more cost effective than "pump and treat" and may also allow for
remediation in the vadose zone in the source areas.
k
10 . 0 SELECTION OF REMEDIATION TECHNOLOGY
{' f
Based ' on the available remediation options, ASE recommends ozone
sparging as a remediation alternative for the site. This remediation
alternative should allow for remediation in the water-bearing zone, and
possibly may have some effect on remediation in the vadose—zone as well. 4
ASE recommends, assuming that the San Joaquin County PHS-EHD concurs
with this selection, that a remedial action plan (RAP) bere ared
P P
presenting a specific design for an ozone sparging system. r
" 1 1 . 0 REPORT LIMITATIONS
The results of this assessment represent conditions at the time of the soil
and groundwater sampling, at the specific locations where the samples
were collected, and for the specific parameters analyzed by the
laboratory.
I
It does not fully characterize the site for contamination resulting from
unknown sources, or for parameters not analyzed by the laboratory. All l
of the laboratory work cited in this report was prepared under t h e G
direction of an independent CAL-EPA certified laboratory. The
i
independent laboratory is solely responsible for the contents and '
conclusions of the chemical analysis data. 1
The pumping test in this report was prepared by H2O Geol of Livermore,
California. H2O Geol is solely responsible foi- the contents a n d
conclusions of the pump test report.
 Y
574 West ,Grant Line Road CAP -- January 2002
-20-
