CA
Dear Ms. Meays:
Attached is an environmental assessment report dated April 7, 1994, which was prepared by
Chevron's consultant, Groundwater Technology Inc. (GTI), to describe the results of additional
soil and groundwater investigation performed at the subject site on January 6, 1994.
Three soil borings were drilled to groundwater. Soil samples collected from each boring were
analyzed for the presence of TPHGas,TPMesel, and BTEX constituents Soil samples analyzed
from boring SB-4 at 10.0 feet below surface indicated the presence of benzene and ethylbenzene at
0.007 ppm and 0.005 ppm, respectively. No other petroleum hydrocarbons or hydrocarbon
constituents were detected in soil beneath the site.
Temporary groundwater monitoring wells were installed in two of the three soil borings.
Groundwater samples were collected and depth to water was measured in each temporary well, as
well as, in existing well MW-1. The measured direction of groundwater flow was toward the
north-northwest. With the exception of 55.0 ppb TPHGas measured at temporary well TW-2, no
other petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in groundwater beneath the site.
Chevron proposes to install two additional groundwater monitoring wells in order to verify the
apparent clean conditions over a complete hydrologic cycle. A work plan describing this proposal
will be submitted to your agency on or before May 30, 1994.
If you have any questions or comments,I can be reached at(510) 842-8695.
Sincerely,
Brett L.
