' Petrig Seed Company <br /> 5413 Grantlme Road, Banta, California <br /> t <br /> 1.aI <br /> S TE DESCRIPTION <br />' The Petrig Seed Company site is located at the corner of Granthne and El Rancho Road in <br /> Banta, California Gasoline contarrunation in the sods at the site was discovered in 1992 <br />' during the course of a geophysical investigation The present work was carred out to <br /> determine if ground water has been impacted by this contammation <br /> 2.0 SITE HISTORY <br /> The Petng Seed Company has been operating at this site for approximately ten years <br /> Conversations with the former owners (the Petrig brothers) revealed that the site was a <br /> restaurant and auto repair shop dating back to the 1920's They also paid that there was <br /> gasoline for sale from a hand operated pump, and that the area it,. Much contamination <br />' was discovered was the former fuel pump area The Petngs thought the 500 gallon tank- <br /> and <br /> ankand the fuel pump were removed about twenty years ago, but were not sure of the exact <br /> time frame WHF has not performed a phase I audit on the property and is unaware of <br />' any previous audit <br /> 3.0 OBJECTIVES AND SCOPE OF WORK <br /> The objectives of this work was to determine if gr-und water had been impacted at the <br /> I site by the installation of one ground water monitoring well The exact location of this <br /> well was based on ground water gradient information from the California Regional Water <br /> Quality Control Board from a site three quarters of a mile distant from Petrig Seed The <br /> work at this site involved the installation of a single two inch ground water monitoring <br /> well twenty feet from the position of the boring (B-3) which encountered contaminated <br /> soils <br /> 4.0 DESCRIPTION OF WORK <br /> 4.1 Drilling <br /> Monitoring well installation was begun on March 15, 1993, by Pierson Drilling of <br /> Modesto, California The soil boring was accomplished using a mobile drill ng with a <br /> hollow stem flight auger tooling of eight inch outside diameter <br /> All tooling was steam cleaned prior to transport to the site Drilling was begun and <br /> sampling, using a modified California split spoon sampler, was conducted at depths of <br /> liefive, ten and fifteen feet However, the fifteen foot sample was not retrieved because of <br /> flowing sands <br />
