File No 93342-SGI Page 5
2.2 WELL CONSTRUCTION
Three of the borings will be converted to monitoring wells Borings B-1, B-2, and B-3 will
I be converted to monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2, and MW-3 To accomplish this, the borings
will be drilled into the groundwater bearing layer Undisturbed soil samples will be
collected at five feet intervals above the first encountered groundwater as was mentioned
in the preceding section of this report To install the wells, a flush-threaded schedule 40,
two inch diameter, slotted and blank PVC casing will be placed in the bore holes The
lower 10 feet of the well consist of slotted casing, with a screw-on plug at the bottom The
upper part of the well 1s formed with a solid casing Prior to installation, all casings will be
thoroughly steam cleaned to minimize the chance of contamination of the borings A well
pack, consisting of number 3 sand, will be placed between the boring walls and the PVC
casing to a point at least 2 feet above the uppermost slots in the casing Bentonite seal will
be installed on top of the sand pack and neat cement will then be used to fill the annular
space from bentonite seal to the ground surface The top of the well is set in a christy box,
at the ground surface, with an internally fitted metal locking cover to provide security
Details of the monitoring well construction are shown in Appendix A
2.3 WELL DEVELOPMENT AND WATER SAMPLING
The subject monitoring wells will be bailed until approximately six well volumes of water
had been removed from the wells
' A clean teflon bailer was utilized to develop and collect the groundwater samples Anew
1 length of nylon cord was utilized prior to development of each well The bailer was
thoroughly cleaned with Alconox solution and then was rinsed with distilled water
Groundwater samples were placed in 40 ml and or one liter containers based on the analysis
to be performed on them and then placed on ice and transported to the laboratory under
the chain-of-custody
The water generated from the well development was stored at the site in a 55 gallon drum
and shall be hauled to a proper disposal site within 90 days, by a licensed hazardous waste
hauler by the owner Our office may be contacted to assist you in disposing the subject
' water from the site
ADVANCE SOIL TECHNOLOGY, INC
