`✓ ti../ <br /> drilling equipment will be decontaminated before each <br /> boring is commenced. <br /> 6.0 GENERAL SAFE WORK PRACTICES <br /> Personal safety and hygiene should be of utmost <br /> consideration while onsite. To prevent ingestion of <br /> contaminants no person shall be allowed to eat, drink, <br /> or smoke on the site. The Site Safety Officer will <br /> designate an appropriate nearby area for these <br /> functions. <br /> 6.1 Standard Operating Procedures <br /> Drillers and other onsite personnel will be briefed each <br /> day in "tail-gate" meetings as to the day's goals and <br /> equipment to be used. Anticipated contaminants and <br /> emergency procedures will be reviewed. Appropriate <br /> personal protective equipment will be put on and <br /> verified correct by the SSO, including respirator fit. <br /> Drilling and sampling equipment will be steam-cleaned <br /> before being brought onsite. Split-spoon sampling <br /> equipment will be steam-cleaned before each use. Augers <br /> will be steam-cleaned between borings. <br /> The Project Geologist will oversee all operations and <br /> log all borings in consultation with drillers. Further, <br /> he or she will assure that proper protocol is used at <br /> all times in collecting and handling samples . <br /> 6.2 Training Requirements <br /> The SSO will conduct a pre-job training session which <br /> will include all points of MSDS forms, contaminant <br /> properties to be encountered, warning signs, health <br /> hazard data, risks from exposure, and emergency first <br /> aid. All points of the SSP will be covered and the SSO <br /> will assure that everyone fully understands site hazards <br /> before work begins. <br /> 6.3 Medical Surveillance Program <br /> According to CFR 29, 1910. 120, Paragraph (f) , employees <br /> who wear respirators 30 days or more during one year or <br /> who have been exposed to hazardous substances or health <br /> hazards above established permissible exposure limits <br /> are required to be monitored medically. As of this date <br /> our personnel have had to wear respirators only a few <br /> days each year and no serious exposures have taken <br />
