� NEA1_Th <br /> 6ETTLER - RYAN"YA IV IViC: } r,f <br /> r <br /> F3 J z I ' 12: 00 <br /> August 19, 1996 <br /> Mr Harlan Knoll <br /> San Joaquin County Public Health Services <br /> Environmental Health Division <br /> P O Box 388 <br /> Stockton, California 95201-0388 <br /> Subject: Addendum to Letter Work Plan for Well Abandonment at Chevron <br /> Service Station #94183, 236 North Ham Lane, Lodi, California (dated <br /> March 7, 1996) <br /> Mr Knoll <br /> At the request of Chevron Products Company, GettIer-Ryan Inc (G-R) plans to abandon <br /> three groundwater monitoring wells at the subject site (Figure 1) Originally four <br />• groundwater monitoring wells (MW-1 through MW-4) were installed at the site (Figure 2) <br /> On March 7, 1996, G-R submitted an application to abandon well MW-3, and possibly well <br /> MW-2, by pressure grouting in-place On April 18, 1996, well MW-3 was properly <br /> abandoned under San Joaquin County Public Health Services-Environmental Health Division <br /> (SJCPHS-EHD) Permit #008719 (copy attached) Abandonment was documented in G-R's <br /> Letter Report for Well Abandonment, dated April 24, 1996 At this time, G-R would like <br /> to amend the scope of work proposed in the March 7, 1996, Letter Work Plan to include <br /> abandonment of all three remaining 2-inch diameter, 60-foot deep groundwater monitoring <br /> wells (MW-1, MW-2, and MW-4) under SJCPHS-EHD permit #008719 Copies of the <br /> boring logs for these wells are attached <br /> The wells will be abandoned by grouting in place Well abandonment will be performed by <br /> Bay Area Exploration Inc (C57 #522125) In each well, neat cement will be placed in the <br /> well casing with a tremie pipe until full A pressure of approximately 10 pounds per square <br /> inch will be applied to the neat cement for approximately 2 minutes to force the cement <br /> through the well screen and into the sandpack material. After grouting, the well box will <br /> be removed, the well casing drilled out to at least 2 feet below grade, and the boring <br /> backfilled to surface grade with neat cement <br /> Based on our telephone conversation this morning, it is our understanding that an additional <br /> permit or permit fee are not required to perform this work Further, it is our understanding <br /> that the Regional Water Quality Control Board-Central Valley Region (RWQCB) is aware <br /> 5261 42-1 <br /> 6747 Sierra Court , Suite J Dublin , California 94568 ( 510 ) 551 - 7555 <br />
